John A. Lomax (1857-1923). “The Reconciliation.”

Buffalo: Gowans and Son, 1900.  16 ¾ x 25 ¼ (image).  Chromolithograph by the American Lithographic Co., NY.    Several short repaired tears in margins with some wear, soiling and chipping along margin edges.   Else, very good condition. 

The mate to this print is “The Story of the Elopement.” 

John Arthur Lomax, born in Manchester, England, was a painter of 18th and 19th genre scenes, often with a dramatic or humorous theme.  He studied at the Munich Academy, and returned to London where his work was widely exhibited.  His paintings are famous for depicting scenes of English gentlemen and ladies enjoying the pleasures of life, in addition to depicting authentic costumes, furniture, stemware and other decorative arts of the period.
