A handsome image from a fine series of steel engravings issued in one of the more popular nineteenth century view books, Hinton’s History and Topography.  This volume went through many editions, beginning in 1830, issued both in England and the United States.  The prints from this work are among the best small topographical views issued of sites around the United States.  The prints from this edition, issued by John Tallis in 1850, are notable for the addition of the embellished borders, which lend a charming decorative flourish to these already charming prints.
